The Business of Printing Equipment
Printing, also known as publishing, issue, and publication, is the process of text and image reproduction. The procedure is usually done by means of using an ink on paper. The practice of printing was first created and introduced in China at around 6th century BC. The development then spread to other parts of Asia particularly in the Middle East. In the middle of 14th century, printing was pioneered in Europe. Johann Gutenberg, a German inventor, expanded the art of printing using the method of wine press in his hometown in Mainz City.
Lithography, screen process, relief printing, and intaglio are the four usual kinds of printing. At present however, great technological advancement has showed the way for more printing improvements. Photographic processes and electronic procedures have opened the way for the so-called digital printing.
Photocomposition devices, such as Linotype Corporation's Linofilm and Photon (created by Ren Higonnet and Louis Moyroud), have been one of the most innovative printing equipments ever made. Its types include the monotype and intertype tools. Some of its major product manufacturers are the Monophoto and Intertype Fotosetter. At present, this printing equipment has been used in many different printing processes; in letterpress, lithography, and gravure printing. In fact, newspapers are now adopting the photocomposition method.
Probably the most conventional printing equipments used in homes and businesses are the typewriters and personal computers (with printer). On the other hand, highly specific and powerful printing equipments are the usual choice for many big businesses. These include the positive printing plate, special cutting rule, flexible printing machine, document copier, color press, laser engraving and cutting machine, computerized roll connecting and dot-severing tool, paper slitting rewinder, XH-700 two-sides 7-colors rotary label printing machine, combined high speed gravure press, styrene butadiene latex for papermaking, multilayer film with metalized foil, twisting mini stepper, publication printing, and the creasing/die-cutting machine.
